Several years ago I discovered cycle touring and it's really become my main focus these days. Now I find myself missing the time in the back country and plan to combine them in the next year. I know Corax has done quite a bit of this stuff, but is anyone else into it ? Care to discuss it ?

It's not my cup o' tea, but there was an interesting article about Maxime Turgeon bike touring/climbing in the Alps in the latest issue of Alpinist. (A30, IIRC.)

Couple of nice links there which I've now got bookmarked. Thanks. I'm more into using the bike as my vehicle to get to a trail head, and then hike / climb from there. I've got a Surly Long Haul Trucker with front and rear panniers plus I pull a trailer with my dog. If all goes well, I'll be in northeast Canada in July and August and plan to combine them for some back country adventure.

How about "Ultimate High" by Goran Kroop ? Has any climber ever taken a longer bike tour going and coming home from a climb ? There is also a great film that was in the Banff series.

Mark Beumont's "The Man Who Cycled The Americas (13,000 miles)" and climbing both Denali and Aconcagua in one season is one of the ultimate trips. He also cycled the world in record time.

Thomas Laussermair had an ambitious vision "Ride a bicycle from Alaska to Patagonia and climb the highest mountain peak of every country on the way." He had bicycle challenges along the way but he accomplished most of what he set out to do.

That's a Trek 720 ca. 1994. Modified with drop bars, slick tires, clangy derailleurs, and poorly maintained bearings. Ridden mainly for Bishop commuting, and usually just once or twice a year to the mountains. This past year, however I've ridden quite a bit otherwise. My wife tore her ACL so we've done many recuperation rides, including near Death Valley, New York and the Gulf Coast. The trailer is your standard one-wheeled BOB trailer, skis attached with rubbery "Voile" straps.

Nice Bob trailer. I have a Burley Nomad that I have lashed skis and climbing gear to onto a rack that mounts on top of it. I have always wondered how to attach skis to the BOB. interesting!
