The US military is designed and equipped for war with the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Union disappeared 20 years ago.

Do the math.

Though I bet there are a lot of Americans right now who'd like to see our mighty armed forces deployed against Slovenia or Mali.

If this John Denver look-alike bounty hunter wants to go traipsing about the mountains looking for Osama, well, let him be. The US gubmint has been unable or unwilling to catch Bin Laden.....apparently they need some help.

I don't think so. For some reason we sent our military to Afganistan when the US immediately invaded Iraq after 9/11. I believe we were intentionally misinformed and sent on a snipe hunt! Why else would George W. have sent the US military to a different country?

Interesting thought.

I read somewhere this weekend that while Iraq and Afghanistan has molded our military into an anti-insurgency mindset, this isn't necessarily the direction that warfare is headed towards, the inference being that we would be caught unprepared if a more "conventional" war broke out

Look up what Shinseki was pushing in the Army since '03 or so. Lighter, faster, etc. No MBT's, lotsa emphasis on SBCT's, yadda yadda yadda.

Etc.

Why don't you guys send in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police? Don't they "always get their man?" :D
