During periods of uncertain avalanche hazard, just "carrying a beacon" will likely serve no other purpose than providing a false sense of security, and helping subsequent rescuers to locate the bodies. Very important for all individuals in a party to have had sufficient practice with the specific unit they are carrying as well as basic avalanche rescue (search techniques, probing, shoveling, etc). Even more important is for the party to practice safe travel techniques and have one or more individuals well-versed in avalanche hazard assessment.
Have fun and be safe!
