Doi Chiang Dao hike?

by Boleslav » Thu Oct 14, 2010 12:58 am

We will be in Thailand and I am looking into the hike to the top of Chian Dao. Have you hiked it, how did you arrange it?
Would you recommend this hike and do you have any pictures?
appreciate the advice.

Sorry I do not have any advice for you, but I will also be in Thailand shortly and looking at what activities I'll be doing.

So just curious as to why you identified this peak, and just where it is if you don't mind. Thanks.

Just so you know before hand there is soon or is now a 1000 baht new entry cost into Thailand.mrchad I am sure the mountain he is talking about is in the north. Where do you plan to go in Thailand? You will be there shortly? I hope you know it is still rainy season still.
edit, yes I am right it is 72 km north of Chiangmai, 3rd highest peak in Thailand. google it and look at wikitravel.

Thanks... will take a look. I will likely be there last half of November, and perhaps again over the New Year.

Undecided on exact location. But one week for sure around Chiang Mai, was thinking I would start there (haven't been there before). That's late enough to be just behind tail end of the rainy season yes/no? If not, maybe I should rearrange.

Other than that, will probably be around the coasts. Pkuket/Phi Phi maybe. For sure Pattaya around the New Year.

Entry fee? That's new. Damnit!

sort of relevant, but I hiked up Doi Pui (near Chiang Mai) last year. Nice hike but nothing extreme.

I think Doi Chiang Dao is supposed to be a nice strenuous hike to a nice peak. Good luck setting that up.

I've been by it as well though didn't climb it. I was told it is the high point of Thailand. There is an Ahkta village nearby where you can stay. If you leave early in the morning, the village dogs will accompany you out. Keep you safe from snakes.
