"...there were bits of his kit in a vertical line all the way up where he had obviously lost them during the fall..."

Amazing story, although I disagree that he was a climber. From what I read, it would appear to me that he was hiking, not climbing. I think newspapers like to use the word "climber" because it sounds more interesting.

I just seen this guy on the BBC Scotland news. He's just got a badly scratched face and some other minor cuts and bruises. They've filmed him ouside the hospital in his gown holding a map 8) . Seems they found him trying to work out where he was on the map.

This even made the paper in Anchorage, as though someone had fallen 1000' through thin air and landed with a few scratches!

Maybe a little media hype? The local account, with picture, makes it look like a long slide down a snow slope that had a few crags or outcrops on it.

(Or, if you are the kind who likes "conservative" media, be SURE to watch the way this was reported in Conservative New Media:

Quite a slide, yes. But still, everything looks steep when viewed head on. When you look at that face from the side, you get this:

Not exactly the "equivalent of a fall from the top of the Empire State Building" that the media was on about.
