Ausangate

by Damien Gildea » Wed Mar 23, 2011 5:20 am

Has anyone here actually climbed, or attempted to climb, Ausangate?

I don't mean the trek circuit, I mean the actual climbing route up the southeast side. I've scoured the web and got plenty of photos and sites, I have Biggar's book, the AAJs, but I'm really looking for first-hand info on the mountain itself - specifically, the summit ridge, but also the section up to and around the first camp.

Or, secondly, first-hand experience of climbing other peaks in the Vilcanota?

thanks,
D

You might try contacting Brad Johnson (http://www.peaksandplaces.com/) . His company does a guided trip around Ausangate that includes climbing it.

Wow!, that's a beautiful mountain. I haven't climbed, but I've climbed in the Arequipa area. I know somebody who is planning a climb by mid july or so of Ausangate and others in the same area.

Japhy from Nepal : http://www.summitpost.org/users/desert-solitaire/22864

He is a great climber and nice guy!. Maybe you could get in touch with him.

Have fun!

Boriss...
