Fall Colors 2011?

by KathyW » Sat Sep 24, 2011 10:34 pm

Any leaf peeping going on yet? Photos and reports will be appreciated. I hope to get out and see some of the color, so reports will help with the trip planning.

Does anybody know if the Forest Service opened the road going up to Lockett Meadows, so I can peep at Autumnal foliage with my sister-in-law ???

Nope they haven't. Its rather dumb because I was talking to Flagstaff's water director and he was saying that the area was still closed mainly because the Waterline Road is closed and because they are doing repairs on the pipes. He told me that there is really no reason why they haven't opened Lockett Meadow Road up. People keep saying that the road all eroded out, that there is alot of deadfall, or possible potholes due to the roots burning out underground but he said that wasn't the case. He gave me an estimate and said in the next few weeks (and that was two weeks ago), so hopefully it will be open soon. Hope that helps

Yes, I KNOW that a person can park near the gate, and walk the entire three miles up the road.

What I don't know is WHY is the road still closed ???

"C'mon, your fellow Arizonans want to drive up to the meadow to view those pretty little leaves, for cryin' out loud !!! :!:

No more excuses - let's open UP the damn ROAD - please ...? ? Pretty PLEASE ...

We were in the White Mts of NH 2 weeks ago and the colors were peaked, but much more muted than normal. Last wknd we went to the Catskills in NY and same thing. Bad year in NE for color....at least from what I can tell.
