A college student was skilled in a fall in the Trap Dike on Mount Colden on Friday morning. The Trap Dike is a fourth-class route, first climbed in 1850. The victim was hiking/climbing with seven other members of the University at Binghamton's outdoors club. They were not using ropes. Details are sketchy, but he apparently fell on the second waterfall, the crux. Someone in another forum heard that he slipped after climbing the waterfall, not while climbing it. Tropical Storm Irene swept trees and rock down the Trap Dike in August, but one local climber said it did not alter the crux moves.
