Hi,

I want to do something this weekend for some easy Alpine Climbing/Mountaineering, but I don't have a lot of ideas about where to go and the current conditions.
Mount Langley maybe?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I suggest getting R.J. Secor's Peaks, Passes, and Trails. It'll tell you everywhere you want to go.

Note that the southern passes are closed and you are going to have to drive through Tahoe (or at least Carson Pass) to get to anything eastside from Stanford.

How about Freel Peak ? It has a grand central view of the Tahoe basin and an interesting North & South approaches .

Man, it's a very, very, very long haul to the east side from the bay area.

Better to hit the Shasta or Tahoe areas. Lassen is pretty cool in the winter, too, with all the steam vents.

We used to drive to Lee Vining a lot from San Jose during the winter. We would leave Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and often got to Lee Vining at 4:00 a.m. My friend's car didn't have a heater or defroster, so we had to drive with the windows down to prevent the windshield from icing up. This meant that we had to drive in full expedition clothing - goggles, down pants, down jacket, down hoot, down booties, etc.

The winter fog in the central valley enroute to Shasta can be pretty bad, too. Once I drove all the way from San Jose to Shasta with the driver's door open, because I couldn't see the road in front of me. With the driver's door open, I could at least see the road stripe down and out to my left.

Thanks for the suggestions, Freel sounds fun. We ended up going to Yosemite, the weather was perfect.

And yes, it's a long drive over Tahoe or Bakersfield, but that's just how it is. Did Lassen a couple of times and also the accessible routes on Shasta.

East Ridge of Round top could be a cool route any time of the year. Rated cl 4. It is pretty chill most of the way. Has couple of exposed spots, nothing insane.
