Hi folks,

I'm curious. Does anyone know if someone's working on a formal, published climbing guidebook to the Trinity Alps? Yes, beta can be pulled here and there, from the web (including summitpost) and word of mouth, but the area seems to have enough peaks and rock climbs to justify/deserve a real climbing guidebook. Hopefully there is some kind soul out there who is working on one. Me? I may slow down in 10 years, then I'll have the time to write. Until then, any word?

To my knowledge, there is not one in the works for the Trinities. However, one is nearing completion for eastern Siskiyou County, including the most extensive section yet in publication for the Castle Crags. It will also include Ney, Cantara, Lover's Leap and certain crags on Mount Shasta, among numerous other places. I have seen early drafts of it and it is awesome! Incidentally, the author is here on SP, though he does no post much.

Nope. The one to which I am referring is much more extensive, has loads of full color pictures and lots of other bonuses. I think it exceeds 240 pages when last I saw it. It rocks and will be a must have for northern CA and southern OR climbers.

met the guidebook author for the upcoming Siskiyou guide last weekend. Saw a couple pages and it looked good.

Ian's guidebook is good too but not comprehensive by any means.

I like guidebooks but think an alps one would go against the ethic there to keep it unreported, much like castle crags. I like that some areas don't get guides or reported climbs.
