Best alpine rock climbing this time of year inNorth America?

by erm83 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 10:54 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to plan a trip for 3-4 days of climbing within the next few weeks...I live in a very flat state, so I'm willing to fly anywhere in North America. I'm looking for climbs comparable to the Mittellegi Ridge both in terms of climbing style and difficulty. I don't really know what meets those requirements and is in condition this time of year. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Should be a ton of this type in Wy, Co. The only prob is your definition of "in condition". I was going to suggest some ridges in the Wind River Range, but it can be a beast getting in there this time of year. I want to say Capitol Peak in CO might fit what you're looking for. A good snow slog in, sketchy class 3-4, and a nice semi-tech ridgeline traverse. It's been done in winter conditions. Look up some trip reports on here, I'm sure someone has done it in March-April. Of course, conditions will always dictate what/when you can do something......don't just go on my suggestion.
