Electrolyte powder in Peru

by RoyJamieson » Wed May 21, 2014 11:59 pm

Can anyone in here tell me if you can buy any type of electrolyte powder in Peru, preferably Huaraz, but if not, Lima would be ok?

Most street kiosks in Lima either have Powerade or Gatorade but I personally suggest chicha and that might be harder to find.

I am talking powder, not the liquid drinks because you can get them anywhere.

Never seen it; unlikely. Just repackage it and take it with you

The one sure alternative is to use the flavored electrolyte powder for children and this can be found in most pharmacies.

I think I've gotten powdered Gatoraide at the market in Huaraz. I've also taken a jar or two of it with me from the states. There are also local powders that probably just add flavor and carbs without the electrolytes, which suit me fine since I'm mostly after the flavor. If you really need electrolytes, just eat plenty of soup.

Any grocery store will sell sugar and salt. They also sell food coloring if it'll make you feel better.

Electrolytes, it's what plants crave:
