conditions in desolation wilderness.....

by yosemiteforlife67 » Thu Dec 18, 2014 4:35 am

Hello out there, I was thinking of getting up to Ralston Peak, Pyramid Peak or perhaps Freel Peak near Lake Tahoe..this coming weekend. I was just curious if anyone has been up there in those areas since this recent system came through this past weekend. I do have snow shoes, and microspikes....and wanted to know....how much snow and what conditions...soft or hard packed..... I want to get in a good hike. This Sunday there will be some pretty good weather, I may go Sunday or Monday. Any help. would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Take a look at the CalTrans live cam at Twin Bridges & Echo Summit.

As of last Sunday: On NE and N sides of Ralston, 2-4 feet of powder. No avalanche activity. We climbed in snowshoes and boots, but sometimes wished for crampons on poorly covered rock near the top.
