Replacement for Mammut Genesis?

by pjc30943 » Sat Mar 07, 2015 8:17 pm

Time to retire my Mammut Genesis 8.5mm halfs. They are great ropes, but i bought them ~6 years ago. Anything better out there these days? I'm looking for doubles that can be used as single-strand leads as well, like the Genesis.
EDIT: And it looks like Genesis is being discontinued by most USA resellers...are people buying the Phoenix more, or some other reason?

Beal Opera is now the thinnest/lightest rope that is triple-rated as a single, double and twin line. Costly but it could be a great supplement to another true double rope since it is truly rated as a single unlike the Genesis.

Thanks for the info, interesting. It's exactly the same weight as the genesis 8.5 (48 g/m), but it's truly rated to 80 kg falls vs 55 kg falls.
I'd previously heard poo things about Beal rope wear and handling, anyone use this rope?
