I'm planning to hike up to the summit of Lone Peak in June and I am not familiar with the area. I have reviewed a bunch of sites and trip logs and I'm running into the following issues:
(1) there are multiple route options (Jacobs Ladder, Bear Canyon, etc.), but some of these trails/trail heads have either been renamed or may have multiple names (e.g., http://climb-utah.com/WM/lonepeak.htm)
(2) access to some trail heads seems to depend upon whether certain back country roads are accessible at the time, which throws off the directions a little
(3) the GPS tracks that I have been able to find online (e.g, here http://alltrails.com/trail/us/utah/lone ... obs-ladder, among other places) seem to come with a healthy dose of "we made a wrong turn and wound up on a different trail" or "we never reached the summit..."
I carry a GPS of my own and I am happy to do some route-finding, but I think that I might be better off having someone else's track to fall back on, especially if it's provided by someone who has done this hike a few times.
Many thanks.
