The thread has been deleted. It was just a prank by someone who claimed to be the Jack Johnson surfer/musician, and was trying to see how many folks s/he could catch in the trolling nets.

My point is that if the phony user links to a famous person's website, it is usually pretty easy to get the webmaster of that site to verify/deny the claim. The PR people are very concerned about image and possible ID theft for nefarious reasons, so they won't let this stuff go long. In some cases they try to track the claimant back to the originating IP address.

I deleted the thread and the user. For a moment, I considered leaving both as examples of the sad fawning some SP members made over this "celebrity," but I didn't want to expose SP to any copyright issues.

But it was funny to read the hero-worship while it lasted!

It's just an avatar for the elves to use to zap trolls with out any harassment. I have no idea when it was last used.

If I'm not mistaken you cannot sign up for sp with a username with spaces, so the admins would have to actually have changed the profile before.
