Sobering Backcountry Ski Video

by PellucidWombat » Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:28 pm

A some of you may have seen.

Good demonstration of how you can't always ski out of the avalanche - you're not moving relative to the sliding snow. Accompanying text says it went 1500 feet and also provides a disturbing description of the sounds you hear after the burial. The guy was found after about 4.5 minutes, which was remarkable.

Stay safe out there this winter, and avalanche-minded!

THanks for posting, Mark.

Remarkable that the guy came out of this unscathed... A great reminder to always be careful of suspect snow conditions, & to pick your backcountry partners carefully :) Dude had an utterly amazing crew.

As a side note, this would be perhaps THE best advertising for a) Tracker beacons & b) the camera the guy was wearing- talk about TOUGH!

Something like this happening is perhaps my worst mountain nightmare... Need to remember to take another avalanche class this winter...

WOW

Great video. I loved it when the were unburying him and he started gasping in joy that he survived, wiggling his fingers and the smiles on the rescuers faces were great.

Thanks for sharing
