I have been a hiker and climber for quite a long time and I have recently come into love with mountaineering. I took a technical course in New Zealand a year ago and I loved it. I am traveling to Patagonia soon for a 3 week break from university where I will just be trekking around, but I remembered one of my guides while in New Zealand.
She would often do solo summits up to Mt. Cook, and I am now considering getting into doing solo summits, but it's difficult to imagine how it might be done. Everything we did in the course was with a partner (all the rock, ice, and snow climbing and glacier travel).
I am wondering what all is involved with solo summits and what kind of techniques and gear might be required. I've had a little bit of a difficulty finding information or articles on it online - everything coming up is about partner summits and belaying/climbing techniques. How is this accomplished by one's self?
Thanks for your time in reading this and I look forward to your responses!
