Indeed. But Number 1 is a tough spot. There's always someone trying to tear you down. It's also hard to maintain that position. I find it's best to be in the Top 10 or top 5, and I expect we'll "bob" down and up along from here.

But Cy's right. SP and its members deserves to be on top. When I think of the amount of work that has gone into this site, yeah, it should be recognized! Well done everyone. :D

Summitpost is a great site, informative, a great resource tool and a site which encourages active debate on all topics.

Its members are a great source of information/feedback from all corners of the globe and all levels of experience.

Of course then again it was rated number one by popularity - that was the only measure.

top100climbing.com seem to be recently registered by Russian woman by name Tetyana Korovina.
Same lady also registered www.Top100Linux.com
as well as another 2 dozen of "top100" domains for $3.99 each;
Top100ScubaDiving.com, Top100-Bank.com, Top100-Book.com
Top100-Game.com, Top100-Health.com, Top100-Mortgage.com, Top100-Movie.com
Top100-Music.com, Top100-News.com, Top100-Search.com, Top100Biz.com
Top100Car.com, Top100ConsumerElectronics.com, Top100ForExSites.com
Top100Investing.com, Top100Map.com, Top100OnlineDating.com
Top100PersonalFinance.com, Top100Racing.com, Top100Science.com
Top100Soccer.com, Top100Travel.com, http://jobs-top100.com/
and maybe more. All those sites use same technique to fetch relevant names from the search engines. $3.99x25 domains=100 dollars. guess the income will cover the input costs
Well, Russian ladies are clever...

We cant accuse her of showing favoritism to Summitpost. (unless its for profit) - edited
Someone else beat her to the top 100 mountaineering books http://www.ronwatters.com/BkChess.htm
They are not numbered, so we dont know which is the most popular.

That site is a joke for the reasons I mentioned in the other thread (when SP was way down the list a short while ago). Probably the site author noticed us talking about his (obscure) site and decided to change the algorithm (or arbitrary placing) to put SP at #1 to get more attention and sell advertising. Basically he's using our message board conversations to get web traffic.

edit: *her* obscure site.

Thanks for the insight. Something worthwhile can come out of it if we can find someone on Summitpost or a well known mountaineering organisation (for unbiased objectivity) with a lot of time and experience to adopt this list on a non materialistic basis and first hand knowledge. - Any ideas?
