What is this?

by climbinmandan » Mon Aug 23, 2010 2:17 am

I have long debated posting this photo. There is something in the sky that I cannot identify. The object is left center of the photo just above ridge line. Maybe someone here would know.I took it up in GNP about three years ago.

It looks like a nose cone of a rocket to me. Weird though huh?

Looks to me like dust on the camera lense. Did you check the photos before and after for a similar artifact?

Definitely not a dust issue. Did you zoom in on the object? It is nicely focused and clearly has shading. I'm not set any specific way, but I've spent many many hours staring at this photo.

I did check the before and after for similar things, but found nothing.

Since the object is out of focus, compared to the distance mountains... it looks like an insect must have flittered by as you took the picture.

Did you see it with you own eyes before taking the shot? Was it moving in the distance?

Nice shot of Logan Pass tho.

Nope. Didn't see it. You're probably right, but it just looks odd to me. If you zoom in a long ways you can see that it's pretty well focused. You can see antenna. My aperture was very wide, something like 6.3, so I would think that if it was a bug it wouldn't be AS focused. I don't know... :?

What about an X-Men/Firefox hybrid?

But seriously it looks like a bug.

Probably an insect. If that was the nose cone of a rocket, or anything even close to that size, it would of made a huge "thud" upon impact a few seconds after you took the picture, closely followed by a large dust/debis cloud rising out of the valley below you.

Then again, maybe its a probe dropped by aliens looking to lure in unsuspecting Earthlings for a little biological research.

Hahaha... I know I sound crazy, but I just don't see how the focus works. (see previous post)

Just wanted opinions, I don't really think it's anything besides strange. :D

I would agree. If it was as far or farther than the mountains, it'd be in focus.

Unless, perhaps, it was a giant bug moving at 1200mph, just over the pass. ;)

Not an insect, more likely a plant seed sticking to your front lens,

I guess it's the nose cone after sending up a satellite or something similar.
Trash falling from the sky.
Like in old times, when people left their trash in the mountains...
