Pilchuck Igloo, Feb. 1972

Pilchuck Igloo, Feb. 1972

Looking East at the igloo wall we built. Actually, we only had to finish a couple of feet. The North half of the lookout was full of snow to within two feet of the rafters. We cut out blocks of snow and completely closed it all off, and had a cozy night amidst the howling winds of an overnight storm. It was 26 degrees F at 6:00PM inside and we lost the thermometer in the snow after that. It was actually better than another time that was warmer, because we had no dripping from the roof.
