Pink and Mertens Mountain Heather

This photo shows the white Merten's mountain heather (Cassiope mertensiana) and pink mountain heather (Phyllodoce empetriformis). Though the two species range and habitat overlap, the former is generally more restrictive being found on rockier, harsher substrates. Photo from the Seven Devils Mountains of Idaho. August 2004
