Pitcher Plant

Pitcher Plant

a carnivorous plant which in some cases uses its own enzymes combined with rain water to dissolve insects into amino acids, phosphates and so on- thereby retaining nutrients mostly by absorbing Phosphorus and Nitrogen, among other things. This particular plant was growing in a very old peat bog where there is no soil for its roots to reach, forcing it to gain its nutrition through other means. Location Quoddy Head State Park
