Ponderosa Pine | [ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ] |
Large Ponderosa growing deep in First Creek Canyon and a major landmark on route to Mount Wilson in Red Rock, Nevada.
These trees were named Ponderosa Pines because of their ponderous size. They have deep root system that enables them to access deep water and keep the tree from blowing over. Ponderosa Pines can live as long as 400 to 500 years.

Hasn't voted | Yes, It's a great tree. I hope it does well for many more years and won't share the fate of another great ponderosa on the North Loop trail which is dying now :( | | Posted Feb 11, 2007 4:05 am |

Hasn't voted | Thank you. I liked the lighting when I took the picture also. This tree really lives up to its name and it is massive. | | Posted Apr 10, 2007 1:35 am |
