Pony Complex Fire

Pony Complex Fire

I got as close as allowed and took this photo a few miles from where I live on Day 2 of the Pony Complex fire. Two fires merged into one giant firestorm that covered 150,000 acres of brush and timber in a mere 10 days. The cloud is what I call a "fake" or "pyrocumulus" that was rarely seen up until the Yellowstone fire of 1988. These have become much more common due to the size of the wildfires of the past two decades. Boise foothills, Idaho Aug 10, 2013 (photo by Bob Boyles)
