Poor Walter

Poor Walter

One of the things I discovered about Havasu Canyon is that there are many dogs. When you leave the trailhead and head into the canyon, a dog may attach itself to your group. If you feed it, it will hang around your camp, them follow you back up to the trailhead when you hike out, so it can find another group. This is the puppy that attached itself to our group. We called him Poor Walter, partly because we wouldn't feed him. He was totally tuckered out after hiking out. Taken 4/06.

LOL! We actually had a discussion about adopting him, but he was pretty well adapted to his life and we didn't think he would have liked living in a city.

Re: At

We didn't feed him because we really didn't want to encourage him. Also, many other campers were feeding the dogs. Believe me, they were not hungry.

I think Poor Walter hung out with us because we would play with him.
