Overview
Punta dell'Ort is the highest summit of that small group of mountains that commands the lower part of Val San Nicolò at SE. This group is formed by Pale di Carpella m 2490, that command Val Monzoni and Val delle Selle, Sass dal Pief m 2586 and Sass de Pecòl m 2416. A little saddle divides the group from Cresta di Costabella.Punta dell'Ort is not very showy, but the view that you can see from its summit is really beatiful and unusual. It is hardly ever visited.
The route to the summit starts at the saddle between Punta dell'Ort and Piccolo Lastei. From here, with a route quite complicated and with some problems of orienteering, with slight difficulties you can reach with caution the summit. I° degree.
Getting There
Val San Nicolò is a wonderful valley that starts at Pozza di Fassa, in Val di Fassa. You have to reach Trento, by train or car, then go to Cavalese, in Val di Fiemme, Predazzo, Moena. Pozza di Fassa is 5 km past Moena. You turn on the right and go by car up to Malga Crocefisso m 1522, then hiking you reach Taramelli Hut m 2046 and go on up Passo delle Selle m 2529, where is a new hut. To reach the saddle where the route starts, you can go up to the top of Piccolo Lastei and then go down along the easy ridge of connection, or from Passo Le Selle crossing the scree at the base of Piccolo Lastei and then going up along a canal.
You can also reach Passo delle Selle starting from Passo San Pellegrino m 1919 and following the path N. 604. This route is shorter than the other, but more less interesting.
