Definitely not in the Mojave Desert! I thought this mountain was maybe at a distance of 50km, but GPS data later showed that it was less than 10km from me when I took this photo. Similar to the eastern U.S., the humid atmosphere makes mountains look farther than they really are. Or from a U.S. Easterner's perspective, the lack of haze in the U.S. Desert Southwest makes mountains look much closer. For me, after spending much time in the desert, this lack of moisture haze has just become normal.
