1,000 Steps Trail (from west side) to "chain-assisted" route
Really enjoyed this hike! Rocky and dusty lower, though there's a nice new trailhead under construction that should be open soon. Took the "ridge direct" to the summit, and the "chain-assisted" official version down. My 55 pound boxer mix did just fine, but a bigger, less-athetic or more timid dog might not like these sections. Tramway was just closed recently - a little eerie now up at the sumit. Still, nice shady benches to relax on and good views.

Up - loop - down - thunder
As I decided to hike up to from the parking lot at 5:30 PM I noticed the "Do not Proceed" sign at the trailhead. What a stupid, bureaucratic system! They want people to hike in the middle of the day, when the Sun is hitting that trail full power. I proceeded: beautiful, steep uphill for 30 minutes. than I circled the summit on the loop train and came down on to the parking lot. Lightning and thunder could be heard in in the distance. The loop is very nice for trail running. I was back at the parking lot at nightfall. Of course, since they close the gate going up to the gondola, I had to park all the way down in some apartment complex. But I did not mid running downhill on asphalt. The hole trip was 4.1 miles in 1:45. Fun to do in the shade/ evening. Not fun in the backing Sun.
This is a nice steep ascent I do from time to time basically out my front door, and also an easy way to get to the ridge and head north.

1000 Steps Trail
Hiked up 1,000 Steps. then I hiked around on the Ranger Peak/Jackaloop Trails, up to the "summit" and then down to the bomber crash site. From the bomber crash site I hiked down the canyon and then on the trail back to my car. A fun hike!
