Rating the Road--Please Don't Vote | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||
PLEASE DON'T VOTE THIS IMAGE IS HERE SOLELY TO SUPPORT THE ARTICLE "RATING THE ROAD: STANDARDIZED 4-WHEEL DRIVE ROAD RATING SYSTEM" Elephant Hill Trail in Canyonlands National Park, UT, is rated 4 on the Red Rock 4-Wheelers scale. But, reading the descriptions of the trail ratings in the linked article (above), it can be clearly seen that this obstacle is closer to an 8 or even a 9 rating. Ratings are based on the single, toughest obstacle, not by averaging. Regardless, there are other features of this trail that suggest a higher rating: Steep grades approaching 30 degrees; narrow, one lane stretches, etc. This shows the failing in the rating systems--objectivity and not taking each individual obstacle properly into account (note that there is a bypass for this obstacle, but that should not affect the trail rating--it should just be noted).
