Red Cone

Red Cone

Viewed from Handcart Peak. Although clouds and midday light prevented me from doing this peak the photographic justice it deserves, I hope its striking colors are at least hinted at here. Red Cone has a 4WD road going directly up and over it, and you can see a jeep about midway along the portion of the ridge shown here. The road is not for beginners, as it is very steep, exposed, and rocky in places. Front Range, CO-- September 1, 2007

are you kidding?

I'd say that varied cloud cover makes the pic. Great texture and tone. It is hard to judge scale though... is it about 1,000 feet from top to bottom in the pic?

Re: are you kidding?

Pretty close on the prominence there. I appreciate the compliment, though. The clouds did help; considering it was around noon, had the sun been out, the picture would have been pretty flat. But I've seen mountains like this one at sunrise and sunset, and that's what I meant by not being able to do it justice.

Re: !!!!!!

Thanks, Byron. If you like the picture, you ought to see some of these mountains with your own eyes. Their coloring can be just unbelievable.
