From Carson Pass I headed up the slope and right for the Summit. No snow so it seemed like Summer.

Great training hike. Went on a clear day, several feet of snow, some beautiful cornices, great views all around.

Nice climb on an extremely windy day. I arrived just before sunrise. It looked like a storm was going to hit, but the skies cleared up after a few hours.

RJPBRoute Climbed: SW Ridge Date Climbed: June 23, 2005  Sucess!
Followed trail to the saddle with pond, then started cross country. There was one small broken up snowfield just above the pond. There was another larger snowfield in the first gully. There was final larger snowfield in the 2nd gully. This one stretched several hundred feet wide by 500 feet long, almost to the saddle on the SW Ridge. From there I followed one of the trails up to the summit ridge and eventually to the summit itself. The wind was blowing, so there was a great 360 view.

3 of us (Ajay, Akshay and me) climbed up and skied down. Ajay summitted up the true summit, while Milind climbed up the northernmost crag. All 3 of us skied down from the north ridge, down the NW facing slopes down to crater lake. We packed our skis from there, walking back down via the dirt road that comes up to crater lake, to our car parked at that spot earlier that morning. Parking the car at this spot 4.9 miles from Carson pass allowed us

much better skiing on the norther slopes. A great day of skiing. Who says it's time to hang up those skis for summer ?

Great snowshoe climb from Carson Pass on a great day to be in the backcountry. Met several skiers making turns off RLP - something else to take up in the future.

Booted up on a long lunch (the kind where you don't bother to go back to work!) from Hope Valley. I was just going to get 1000 feet of elevation gain for a workout and a few turns, but I ended up going uphill until I summited.

Near the top, I talked to some snowboarders who had staged a car in Hope Valley and then driven up to Carson Pass. I got the distinct impression that they thought I was nuts for walking up from Hope Valley.

Anyway, I had a great ski down and was back in Markleeville in time to pick up my wife when she got off work at 5.

Summitted with rgreene after a late start. Ditched the snowshoes on the lower ridge just above the snowpark as the snow was windblown and firm. To add some excitement, we scrambled up the Class 3 section just above the lower ridge and below the saddle. Made the summit in 2 hours and nearly got blown off the peak by the 50 mph+ winds. Great 360 deg views from the summit. Highly recommended peak!

Summitted with blmcclain. Passed Eric L and bros on their way down - Brian and I took a fun class 3 rock variant between the snow chutes to the summit. 3.5 hour roundtrip including too much time on the deadly cold windy summit!

I climbed this peak with my bros Ryan and Abi. We climbed up a chute on the south side of the peak. It was windy as hell but also a lot of fun. To reach the summit we did some mixed climbing.

Climbed with Johnny, Steve, and Jan - Snowshoed up the SW ridge and skied off the west face. The summit crags were made exciting by partial snow cover. The snow was a bit heavy but the descent was still a blast.

My wife and I climbed up from Carson Pass during our trip to the Tahoe area for my birthday weekend. The conditions were grand except for the nasty side-hilling required to enter the gulley. I'll post a trip report shortly.

Unbelievably windy and cold!!! At times I was almost pushed over by it. I guess the direction was ok in that it plastered me to the rock on the final class 3 or 4 summit block. Snapped a few photos and bailed. Super clear views. I could see all the way to Tower Peak, about 45 miles...see pics.

Ascended the gully between Castle Rock and Red Lake Peak then descended the Southwest Ridge. Nice little half day hike with a fun scamble to the top for rewarding views of Round Top, Tahoe, Desolation and so forth. Can't wait to ski it next season.

perfect weather for a hike/climb up. Snow is compactifying after more than a week w/o precipitation. started off from trailhead at 9:45am, summitted at 12:30pm. my first solo winter ascent

I was inexperienced and a bit blind and went up towards the wrong false summit, (to the highpoint southwest of the 'real' false summit) b4 realizing my mistake. Climbed up the summit crag from the east. As this novice climber realized, climbing down the crag is more difficult than climbing up.

It's fun climbing the knobby conglomerate. We encountered some coyotes on the way down.

I climbed this peak solo 3 times (twice in winter) its fun, straight forward, with amazing views of Round Top, Hope Valley, Lake Tahoe, Mice Lake, Cables lake. A beautiful winter playground in this backcountry. Oh yes, windy.
