I don't recall seeing it so green up there.

Yeah. We'd hiked Philmont just the week prior and they actually let us have campfires. First time in 10-years! Our folks who went in 2005 (the next year after us) had the more typically dry conditions. I saw that in the usual crew photo. Here's ours from 2004:
