Pleasant hike on a well maintained trail. We were the only ones on Robertson vs a bazillion on Old Rag.

RuvichaGood winter hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 12, 2017

I've climbed Robertson on a blazing hot day in summer after descending from Skyline Drive and then attempting Old Rag. Bad idea; my hiking buddy and I suffered heat exhaustion and then had a miserable hike back down Old Rag and back up to Skyline Drive. In winter, it's a different story --the steep climb is easier and Robertson Mountain affords grand views of Old Rag that are hidden in summer when the trees are in full foliage. As a previous writer noted, there's some fun scrambling at the top, too. A slightly different and longer route is to start at Berry Hollow, turn onto the Weakley Hollow Fire Road, then cut up the excellent Robertson Mountain trail. After summiting, it's a half-mile jaunt down the west side of Robertson to the Old Rag Fire Road and back to your starting point.

Did this for the first time, after climbing Old Rag for the fifth. It's a challenge, that's for sure. Watch out for the poison ivy alongside the trail. It's everywhere!

Up the Old Rag fire road and down the east side. Added this to the short and popular Old Rag loop. Adding Robertson makes the loop 11.5 miles with 3,000 feet elevation gain. A nice workout. Not much to look at along the way but I found some solitude, which is what I was looking for.

ProvotroutGood Burn  Sucess!

Climbed this four times in the fall of 2011, planning to go more this winter and spring. The ridge trail from the park boundary is a good, short challenge and I haven't figured out how to go straight up without resting yet. The views on top are great as you're deeper in the park than Old Rag.

Just did a 2 day loop of Robertson to Hawksbill and back to the Old Rag lot, nice 21 mile loop that had me exhausted with the elevation gain and distance. Thumbs up to the guy that maintains the trails on Robertson, lots of fallen trees!

We climbed this peak on a four day backpacking trip. Descending down the east side woth a full pack was somewhat challenging. We had the summit to ourselves and only saw two other groups of people all day. Great hike on a nicely maintained trail.

Five times so far, sometimes as part of a big loop that also includes other peaks like Old Rag, Hawksbill, and Stony Man.

gkaufmanBrutally steep  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 28, 2009

After finishing Old Rag in the morning I climbed Robertson Mountain for the first time. It was definitely a steep climb and the miles and elevation gain already under my belt for the day made it that much harder. Summit was socked in with fog so I got to see nothing. Oh well, I shall return.

The way I felt at the end of the day reminded me a little of my 14er climbs in Colorado.

Climbed the East ridge of Robertson Mountain after finishing Old Rag. Steep trail, but the solitude and the views from the top are absolutely worth it.

Thanks to Buz for maintaining the trail. It is a fun, steep climb to the top with some very rewarding views. I had the summit all to myself as well. Some fun rocks to jump around on as well on the top.

I climbed it 12 time last year and twice so far this year. Why so many? I volunteered to maintain the trail.

I've climbed this mountain at least three times, with the most recent trip being Thanksgiving day 2001.

It's a great alternative to the busy Old Rag hike. Last time we traversed the mountain from east to west, returning to the Old Rag parking lot along the Old Rag fire road which offers one of the best views of Old Rag mountain I have seen.
