It was surprisingly cool on the way up for a 104 degree day in the valley. The stream was an awesome surprise in Big Willow. The summit was very peaceful. Met a cool guy at the top, which was another surprise. A nice dayhike.

11/8/2015 With Ben Stokes and Donovan Lynch. After Rocky Mouth we made an attempt on Lone Peak's North peak. Backed off of North Lone about a 100' feet from the top due to snow on the slabby granite. Not worth it with the slick conditions and all that exposure.
7/31/2013 Started at the trailhead at Hidden Valley Park. Very pleasant hike in parts and not so much in others. Despite a couple of route finding issues and incessant bushwhacking I reached the summit in 3 hr 20. Much faster on the way down, didn't make the same mistakes twice. 5 and half hours RT. Like AjaxHiker before, this peak completed my list of the 31 - 10,000 ft. central Wasatch Mountain peaks that have enough prominence to qualify.

Late fall via Big Willow
This was to be the last nice day before the snow came, so I had to get one more hike in. Nice hike though the trail is severely overgrown in some spots. Outstanding views of the Bells Canyon area peaks from the summit. This peak completed my list of 31 Central Wasatch peaks over 10k' with at least 200 feet of prominence. Still many new places to visit!
Great climb, but the main trail from Hidden Valley Park is very overgrown after the avalanche sign in Little Willow Canyon. After the first stream crossing in Big Willow Canyon, pay special alert to red and orange blazes on the trees. We missed them at one point and ended up far north on the canyon too soon and spent 1 hour bushwacking back to the trail. Even when on the trail, it is extremely overgrown and you must pay attention until you get to about 9000 feet, then there are rock cairns that will take you to the south saddle of RMCP. Once there, it is a standard Class 2 trip to the summit. Some minor scrambling the last 100 feet to the summit. Register was still present. Great views of Bells Canyon

Came up Big Willow and made the summit in 2 hr 35 min. Traversed over to Bell Mtn from here via the northwest coulior (lot's of loose rock) and then the ridge, came back via the bowl and then the north ridge. This is a very fun approach but gets up there in exposure, loose rock and has some 4-5th class moves. Definetly harder than the south ridge of superior I did the week before. The actual summit of Bell's mountain is very pretty and has excellent views for such a rarely visited peak.

My 2nd time at the summit on 5/22/07. 1st time on 07/12/06. This time with Brent, Lana and Kim. Beautiful climb through varied landscapes. Snow above 8,600' and at the summit it was snowing lightly! Caution: 5200' elevation gain is not to be taken lightly. 3rd ascent to summit on 6-11-07. Very little snow along the trail now. 10-25-07 brought me for the 4th time to the windy, snowy summit. With Anne, Kim and Lana. Snow above 7,000 feet. 5th time as above noted and 12" of fresh powder, 30 degrees, light snow and 100' visibility above 9,000'. With WMC members Cheryl, Sharon & Lana. 6th time on 12-3-08 with Anne. Plenty of snow above 8,000' - snowshoes a must. Great climb and fabulous views from the summit. 7th on 4-18-09 w/ Dave, Robert & Brent. Huge snows from 4 days earlier, much slide evidence. In clouds on top - again! 4+48 up and only 2+40 down. #8 1-12-10 Solo for last 3 hrs with continuous trailbreaking in uncooperative snow. 6+00 up to the ferocious winds on the summit and 2+30 down. Very tough climb today. #9 8-28-10 W/ Brent, Dave & JP Lewis. 3+15 up, 2+43 down. Much wind, gusting to 40 mph at least. #10 1-22-11 w/ Brent but solo to the top. 5+31 up, 15 degrees & wind on the summit. Missing key members of hiking group. 3+01 down. #11 5-10-11 W/ Dave. Snow as if in February! Both west & east peaks. #12 6-4-11 w/ Anne. Much snow, needed crampons. #13 11-5-11 Very tough early winter conditions, thus 6+50 up (but 3+10 down). Crazy. #14 1-10-12 Fresh snow plus a rarely-used trail equals tough soloing to the top. (Where were my hiking friends today?) 5+32 up but 2+43 down. Snowshoes mandatory above 8,500'. #15 7-21-12 Solo. Trail very overgrown with brush above the stream crossing. Long pants recommended! 3+09 up, 2+20 down. #16 8-18-12 Very overgrown in spots. #17 8-25-12 WMC adventure. #18 9-27-12 Solo. 3+14 up 2+35 down. Fall in full colors on the maples. #19 8-17-13 3+12 up 2+17 down. To say the trail is overgrown is an insult to the word hyperbole. If nothing else, wear long pants and pay close attention.#20 5-24-14 WMC on a soggy day but 4+08 up. IVD #21 4-5-16 Solo, Solid snow after 2nd streamlet crossing. Very hard to follow the "trail." Microspikes to summit base then snowshoes. Lots of small slide evidence. Zero rocks showing on the summit. 4+17 up. #22 10-28-16 W/ Yadahzoe. Windy but warm, so snow on the trail. 4+24 up. Some kind soul has improved the trail by trimming and lopping and by fastening red metal markers on key trees up to the hanging canyon. #23 11-22-16 Solo. Snow, lots of it. 7+ hrs up because I forgot to take snowshoes! Won't make that mistake again - I hope. #24 11-25-16 Solo. A Black Friday event done mostly in white, deep white. A quick-moving storm had dumped at least 12"+ of new snow and I'd never have made it without snowshoes. Breaking trail in 12" to 18" of new snow is tiring. Therefore 6+56 to the wind-blasted summit. 2+40 down. The wind never let up... #25 11-18-17 W/ Yadahzoemtn. 12” new snow Snowshoes at 9,250’. 6+48 up. #26 12-8-17 W/ Brent. Wore microspikes from the overlook to the summit. 6+03 up. Cold but sunny. #27 2-17-18 Solo. Trail-breaking from the 1st overlook and snowshoes from 7,800'. Very tough fighting post-holed trail gullies, wind and sticky snow clinging to my snowshoe undersides. 6+up. #28 3-10-18 WMC w/ Luther & Lana partway, with Chris to the top. Lots of new snow, most of it difficult to plow through: crust, deep, often sticky. 6+57 up. Sunshine, no wind. #29 10-30-18. Solo. Frozen snow above 9,250’. 4+38 up. #30 11-16-18 W/ Lana & Brent. Some snow on the trail and 6"-10" above 9400' in shady areas. 4+51 up. #31 05-25-19 W/ Lana & Chris Johnson 6+54 up, had boots but no snowshoes - mistake. Tons of snow from deep in the forest, mostly oatmeal consistency. #32 05-25-22 W/Lana. 5+46 up. Snow from 9,000’.

Went up to collect info to put up the mountain page. A standard wasatch-foothills hike. Good trail until about mid-canyon, but it was still easy to follow. Once I hit snow it got more difficult to see, so I just went straight uphill.
