Approach
You can start at the Zugspitze or the Osterfelder Kopf. In winter, both can be reached only by cable car, if you do not have ski or snowshoes.
Route Description
If you start from the Zugspitze, you can climb the ridge in one day, if you are quick. In order to do this, you must take the first funicular of the Eibseebahn, which starts sometimes 1 hour before the official start (7 a.m. instead of 8 a.m). You should leave the bivouac hut at about noon (12 to 12:30 p.m.) in order to reach the Osterfelder Kopf before darkness. From the Osterfelder Kopf you can take the Alpspitzbahn down.
If you start from the Osterfelder Kopf, you should plan one night on the bivuoac hut.
Essential Gear
1 ice-axe, crampons, rope, down jacket and stuff for an unplanned bivouac
Weather-Conditions
You should not try the ridge when new snow just has fallen, because the snow would be too deep. You also have to pay attention, when the wind is very high. Pay attention to the avalanches!! A climbing is not recommendable if it is avalanche grade 2 or higher.
