Approach

From the Piute Pass trailhead (North Lake, Bishop Creek) hike over Piute Pass, then go southwest on a faint use trail past Lost Lakes to Muriel Lake. From the outlet of Muriel Lake, hike west cross-country to the west end of a bench below the north face of the peak. Just past a small lake, gain the toe of the obvious northwest ridge.

Route Description

From the toe of the ridge, walk and scramble (up to class 3) directly up the ridge to a notch with a 30' vertical step blocking passage. Go right around the base of the step, then ascend a loose chute back to the ridge top. Continue directly up the ridge, passing through an unstable band of black rocks. The final moves to the summit are class 3 on the ridge, or high class 2 just left of the ridge.

Essential Gear

A good pair of boots.

"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."   --M. Cartmill
