Routes on Mount Julian ....

Routes on Mount Julian ....

Routes on Mount Julian. There is nothing I would describe as a "standard route". This is a well guarded mountain. The options range from a 12.6 mile jaunt from Milner Pass (Milner Pass Route) to the the fun but challenging Terra Tomah Mountain Traverse (<7 miles RT). The ultimate in masochistic endeavor is the Cain Coulior descent into the Gorge Lakes Drainage. This route is one of the hardest and most dangerous things I have ever done. Although only 7-8 miles RT, this is some of the toughest bushwacking terrain imaginable. Deadfall amidst boulders and hidden headwalls are commonplace. Bogs and willows fill the flat spots. Tipsy boulderfields grace the lower eastern shoulder of the drainage. The Terra Tomah Traverse and the Cain Route both require the significant descent and ascent of the Thompson Glacier Gorge. This in itself is a challenger. Jon

I agree Jon...a VERY well guarded mountain....I'm suprised you summited by way of forest canyon...that I have been down into the gorge lakes just once and got caught in one hell of a storm while tring to bushwhack through those bogs and willow with about 60 lbs on my back....needless to say, that gorge kicked my ass. But this is a mountain I have had my sights set on for a while...I just have to get the courage to get back into that area ;)

Re: .

Jon, this is a perfect topo map. Someone gave you three stars for a piece of route beta that without it, would be almost impossible to do our route. Good luck trying to explain to mr 3 star topo voter how to do this route without a map. Awesome job on the overview as well.
