Thanks for the nice comment! Yes, I had perfectly blue skies, which were a first in nearly two weeks of dark grey clouds :-) They sure know what 'rain' means in NZ, especially on the west coast...
I know this may seem silly. My guy and I want to get married in NZ. We are both mountaineers and climbers. After seeing these pics of couples on Mt. Roy with Mt. Aspiring in the background (on our bucket list)I thought it would be perfect for us too.

I would prefer to hike to this point rather than heli to the top. Mostly for principle and secondly, it's ridiculously expensive. Looking at Rick's photos, I can't tell if this point is on the path. Is it easy enough to scramble over to what I think is the right point? And for a photographer to follow? Is it allowed? Or looked down upon for trail erosion purposes?
The views are absolutely gorgeous- though I read blue sky days are rare. If anyone has any suggestions on other gorgeous points, please post. Hopefully I didn't offend anyone.
Hah, interesting idea. I think you best get in touch with the local DOC-office (Department Of Conservation). I'm sure they can help you with the details. For instance, large parts of Roys Peak are private land, used for sheep farming. They might know who the owners are etc.
Other places you can try are the forums here, there's a specific Oceania section, although it's pretty quiet sometimes.
Finally, one particular piece of information I can offer is that on our way up, there was A LOT of sheep poop everywhere. This might be a thing to consider if you plan on hiking up in your wedding dress ;-)
In any case, good luck with everything! If it all works out, be sure to add a pic to the Roys Peak page!

Untitled CommentNo, unfortunately New Zealand is not among the 56 countries I visited so far. Would like to one day however: Friendly country with beautiful peaks!

Untitled CommentCool that it is here at SP, but it must be new (didn't see it a few months ago).
I'll try to dig out some fotos next week and append them.
Thanks for adding this really nice hiking peak.
