Loved to death
I've done this trail thrice over the years, but New Year's Day was an absolute zoo. It seems that the word has gotten out and the whole city had decided to spend the afternoon here, with dogs in tow. It's hard to enjoy the beauty of nature with someone's phone blasting music in your ear, and dog poop strewn about the trail (or worse, plastic bags of it thrown in the bushes).
Saw a rescue helicopter lift someone out near the summit. Not surprising... there were many "questionable"-looking walkers.

Not a Bad Way Down
I think Mishe Mokwa Trail is a better way to get up to Sandstone Peak, but this is a great, quick way down.

Nice and short
Gorgeous day in the Santa Monica Mountains. Very few people. Beautiful views from the top. Continued further to Boney Peak and Exchange Peak.
