Yeah, Sassafras came about 3/4 of the way through our day and required a pretty good tug to get up. I LOVED the red columbine blooming everywhere and the dripping, mossy springs.

I seem to remember reaching it after a bit of an uphill slog. Won't ever carry a 50 pound pack for non-technical routes again!

Met a group of Army Rangers while I was going up, or rather, while I was leaning against a rock munching a granola bar and they were humping 16s and a SAW. "He's got the right idea" is what one said.

It was lightly raining when me and 4 friends hiked up and over Sassafras Mountain. I was impressed with the amount of wildflowers on the top. We initially were going to camp on the top of Sassafras but due to the weather decided to camp at Cooper Gap instead.
