Bis Scaly #2

Did you know there is a Big Scaly in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness? Its south of Standing Indian. When I was on top last fall it was windy and raining.

Re: Bis Scaly #2

I wasn't sure. I did see a Scaly Mountain listed at a lower elevation and in a different county at Topozone. As it wasn't the one I'd climbed, I didn't get any details.

Absent clouds, would it have a nice view?

As I recall you could look west. Evidence of camping near top. A bit of a haul to get to.

I'm amazed you find so many obscure place in the east with views. From obscure peaks in the east, I usually saw trees and one or two views from cliffs.

Re: views

There are lots of mountains around the south that have exposed rock. You just have to look for them. Around Highlands, however, there are dozens--almost all within sight of one another. Unfortunately, several are under private ownership from base to summit and are off limits to hikers and climbers.
