Did you know there is a Big Scaly in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness? Its south of Standing Indian. When I was on top last fall it was windy and raining.
I wasn't sure. I did see a Scaly Mountain listed at a lower elevation and in a different county at Topozone. As it wasn't the one I'd climbed, I didn't get any details.
I'm amazed you find so many obscure place in the east with views. From obscure peaks in the east, I usually saw trees and one or two views from cliffs.
There are lots of mountains around the south that have exposed rock. You just have to look for them. Around Highlands, however, there are dozens--almost all within sight of one another. Unfortunately, several are under private ownership from base to summit and are off limits to hikers and climbers.
