Schist Outcrop

After I pulled my kayak from the water to do some scrambling on the Maryland side of Mather Gorge, I found this outcrop that perfectly illustrates how smooth and slippery the rock at Great Falls is in a lot of places. Even hiking across it can be treacherous, and technical climbs often feel slightly harder than the grade. Great Falls, MD-VA-- August 2010
