This is the namesake for the Sheep Rock Unit at the John Day Fossil Beds near Dayville, Oregon along Hwys.26 in Central Oregon.
This image was taken across the hwy. from the great paleontology museum that has beautifully painted murals depicting the appearance of the landscape where the fossils that rest below in cases once existed. A must see for anyone, and donations only for entrance. Hikes can be arranged through the faculty at the museum, ask for Michelle Ordway, she is a great hostess and leader.
