Shrubby Penstemon (Penstemon fruticosus fruticosus)

Shrubby penstemon is a widespread species in the northwest U.S., northern Rocky Mountains and adjacent Canada. Of the three varieties, fruticosus is the widespread and common one. It grows on open slopes, often associated with rock outcrops from low canyons to near timberline. Photo from near the summit of East Peak in the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. July 1994
