Similaun from high on the Mutmalspitze SW side

Similaun from high on the Mutmalspitze SW side

The big glacier in front is the Marzellferner, the smaller one higher up the Niederjochferner. During the afternoon, clouds developed and descended upon the Similaun summit, on the far left in this photo. The subsidiary summit of the Kleiner Similaun is on the right. The normal route to Similaun is a very easy glacier walk. It comes from the right, starting outside this photo. On the final part, you can either go over Kleiner Similaun, or around it on the glacier on this side. Mind you, there are some crevasses, so, although it's very easy, I would advise against soloing unless there is no snow on the glacier. 12 July 2012.
