Fun off trail route!  Sucess!

Used a route that is popular with backcountry skiers (minus the snow) out to Sky Pilot, by starting at the Gash Point trailhead and following the ridge out, before climbing the North face. Also dropped down in to Bear Lake to take a look, and a lap around before leaving for the day.

Beautiful area!  Sucess!

Good overnight trip with the buds to summit this peak. Lots of huckleberry feasting on the way in and out.

Peaceful   Sucess!

Solo climb, Bear creek trail to the pass, trail is a bit overgrown before you make it to the lake. Looks like the trail gets a lot of use by horses. Wonderful views the whole way. I spent the night at Bryan lake. Easy route finding from the pass to the summit.

Climb and ski  Sucess!

My friend David and I plus a surprise ski partner, Graham, skied in and bootpacked to the top, then had an amazing ski down the northeast face/couloir. Awesome day in the mountains! Traversing from and back to Gash Point takes a bit and since we didn't drop down to the lake involved a lot of side-hilling, but sometimes that's just what you gotta do.

SW ridge from Bryan Lake  Sucess!

Camped at the confluence of Bear Creek and the North Fork. Planned on ascending the peak from Bryan Lake and then dropping down the north slopes to Bear Lake where an unmaintained trail should lead back to the confluence. All OK to the summit, but then had to downclimb a steep, wet gully to get down to Bear Lake that neither myself or my dogs felt all that safe doing. Then in a raging thunderstorm, we had to bushwack 2 miles from Bear Lake back to the confluence because we never found that trail! I did find the trail where it leaves the confluence but it didn't seem to take long before it petered out. Has anyone else tried to take that trail to Bear Lake recently? I also learned that one needs to be very careful when deciding to downclimb something that you didn't climb up or don't have any info on. Luckily we didn't get cliffed out in that gully and my dogs forgave my routefinding after a couple pieces of beef jerky!

This Time With A Group  Sucess!

9aug10 - This time I took a group of 5 (plus myself) to the summit. Rather than return by the same route, we descended along the southeast ridge to the saddle, then passed through some high-mountain meadows and small groups of tree to reach the trail below the pass. It's a much better way to descend -- far more beautiful.

22aug09 - I would have to pick one of the hottest days of the year to climb this peak 21.1 miles (round trip) from the trialhead. Still, it was a great outing.
