Looks like the Alpine Lakes Wilderness is supposed to get a bunch of snow later this week, so Triple Couloirs is probably out for this weekend. My backup plan is for Fred, Matt (NYC007), his girlfriend Jessi, and I to head to Leavenworth to do some classic multipitches. I'll be adding some 11worth crag pages next week, if we do.
Ever climbed there? I was there twice last fall, and loved it. If you have any inkling to come up there this weekend, let me know. We could share some beta, meet up for a couple beers in town, and share a campsite, if you want.
We were thinking of doing Cocaine Connection / R&D on Icycle Creek Buttress (a 6 pitch 5.7), then Midway on Castle Rock (a 4 pitch 5.5), and Givler's Crack on Givler's Dome (an awesome 3 pitch 5.8 that I did last fall).
Hmmmm......not sure. Kind of feel like I need to do more stuff in the Dihedrals before I can really post a page on it (maybe after I work up the nerve and skill for Moonshine.....it'll be a while).
I learned from Annie what the name means. Staender (German word pronounced like Shtender) is German slang for a boner. Kind of makes sense now with all the rock towers on the ridge. I had to laugh, I did not know that.

Untitled CommentAlan,
Thank you for the good vote. If you're ever in the PNW bagging peaks, consider a day of cragging at Smith :)
(and give us a heads up if you're going to be in the area).

Untitled CommentAs usual, another fine Smith Rock page from my tall friend, Radek. Cool photo of the overall area with the light snow covering.

Untitled CommentThanks Brian.
Have you had a chance to do some climbing there before?
By the way, that overview photo was one of two days this winter that we couldn't really climb there. The place got a nice dusting of snow.

Untitled CommentI climbed there once a long time ago. My first lead ever was Lollipop League. :- ) Did about 3 others on Adit Rock.
So, when do we see the Dihedrals? Lower Gorge? Keep 'em coming!
