Some of the groves in South Mountains are 50% to 60% hemlocks. I fear for the health of the forests if the Hemlock wooly adelgid rages through there as it has points north and west (hard to find a living hemlock in parts of Virginia, now.). I'm going to miss the eastern and carolina hemlocks--they've been the most beautiful trees in the southern forests. |
