South Buttress - Haydar...

South Buttress - Haydar climbing the fifth pitch. This climbed a low 5th-class arete, then traversed over a steeper chimney to the sandy ground between the two humps near the summit. (July 17, 2005).

Re: Nice...

Thanks Derek! I enjoyed that section although the climbing was easy.

I just happened to read your Concord West Face trip report yesterday - great TR! The West Face of Concord looks quite impressive.

Re: Nice...

Jim I'm glad that you found it of interest, it was a fun climb. Most of my info (and stories) is a little dusty (old); my kids are now old enough to be climbing partners so perhaps I can contribute a little more current BETA to this site.

Nice climbing.

Hey Jim,

Sunny & cloudless day in the North Cascades ... lucky.

8 or so rappels without a single stuck rope ... luckier.

Back to Marblemount in time for dinner ... priceless!

You guys must've been hungry cause some of them Marblemount dinners were REAL memorable for me ;)

Re: Nice climbing.

I don't know about you, Radek, but for me the last two hours of any climb (even day climbs!) are spent dreaming about food.

Too many of my North Cascades adventures have ended by driving around Arlington/Burlington at 11pm looking for something to eat. Having dinner in Marblemount while it was still light out was a luxury - no matter what the food!

But if you have any advice about how to avoid the real "memorable" dinners - I'd love to hear it!

Last 2 hours? that's it? I remember roping up couple wks. ago at base of Outer Space and thinking "if we time this right, can still hit Coldstone ice cream in Lworth and Thai food in PDX and got a couple Sam Adams's chilling in the fridge at home....."

Nothing to eat up there in North C./WA area. This diner we stopped by in Darrington (the only one pretty much) was probably the best in the region but still nothing to write home about...

Re: Nice climbing.

I’m suspect of the “Good Food” (oxymoron); in Marblemount Wally’s seems to be a good place to eat. My favorite (and my kid’s) place is Annie’s Pizza in Concrete, we order a ½ & ½, Persian Pipeline – Chuck’s Diesel Pizza. Derek.

Re: Nice climbing.

Thanks Derek and Radek. It's good to know that there is decent food to be found in both Darrington and Concrete. Now if they could only stay open past 9pm!
